One more sleep until start of Inaugural Race

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

The crews of the 17 yachts racing in the Inaugural Brisbane to Great Keppel Island Tropical Yacht Race are today arriving at both the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron marina in Manly and Rivergate Marina underneath the Gateway Bridge on the Brisbane River.

After an unseasonal cold snap in Brisbane, champagne weather is predicated for the 1100 hours start outside Green Island two nautical miles east of the Lockyer Beacon on Moreton Bay.

The 28 degrees forecast for Friday is ahead of another cold snap which is due to bring with it a 20-30 knot southerly change.

The first yacht is predicted to round Monkey Point south east of Great Keppel Island either late Saturday night or in the early hours of Sunday morning and at this stage could be either the Volvo 60 Getaway-Sailing.com or the Hugh Welbourne 42 Wedgetail.

The race briefing will take place from 1800 hours tonight (2/8/07) at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Flags Function Room.

Spectator vessels are invited to join the fleet at the start to witness history when the gun is fired for the Inaugural Brisbane to Great Keppel Island Tropical Yacht Race.
